On-job Training
In the past, our focus is mainly on new employees who are lack of workforce readiness. Now please let us throw our light on the experienced workers. It is acknowledgable that it is of vital importance for new employees to get some training before they start their work. However , we seldom pay attention to the skills of experienced workers. It is reported that most workplace skills are even more significant today for experienced workers than for the new comers.
According to a poll that released by the Society for Human Resource Management( SHRM), 20 out of 23 critical skills are more important for experienced employees than for new workers. Those skills above are as follows:
Critical thinking/problem solving
Leadership
Professsionalisn/work ethic
Teamwork/collaboration
Adaptability/flexibility percent
However, which is the most efficicent way to improve the employees’ skills? Employers and employees have different opinions. Most commonly offered by employers are instructor-led workshops(83%), on-the-job training(82%) and continuing education courses(80%). From the ponit view of employees, they thought the best way were on-the-job training(69%) and coaching or mentoring(52%), followed by college courses(43%).
In order to improve the work efficiency and prapare the workfore for the upcoming labor shortage, the employers need to communicate with their employees to determine the most efficient training.
